Bio

Filipina independent movement artist, Butoh dancer, choreographer, theater and film actress, and artist collaborator based in Manila, Philippines whose pursuing the different possibilities of movement in the works of Japanese Butoh form through collaborative arts. An awardee of Alvin Erasga Tolentino Koreograpiya Award 2020, CCP Choreographers Series WiFiBody.PH New Choreographers Competition 2018 3rd Prize winner, and PUP Outstanding Student Achievement Awardee in the Arts in Dance 2014, she is one of the first Butoh practitioners in the Philippines and the first Filipina to study Butoh in Japan. Sasa is a grantee of Asian Cultural Council Individual Fellowship 2022-2023 to research Butoh dance and diaspora in Japan and the USA. She is a recipient of Asia Culture and Arts grant of Japan Foundation Manila, Para Site NoExit grant for Unpaid Artistic Labour- Philippines, and Prince Claus Seed Awards for her work, Kapwa— Movement Project. Sasa represented the Philippines in the recent Asia Butoh Forum presenting various Butoh dancers from several countries across Asia.
